Myalup

Myalup is a town located on the coast of WA between Mandurah and Bunbury in the Shire of Harvey. It is approximately 140 kilometres from the Perth CBD and a 1.5-hour drive. Myalup comes from the Aboriginal word ‘mya’ meaning paperbark tree, which are abundant throughout this area.

This small peaceful coastal settlement lies at the southern edge of the pristine Yalgorup National Park and Lake Preston. Yalgorup National Park is a haven to animals, birdlife and stromatolites (one of the first life forms known on earth). Lake Preston is the largest of the ten lakes in the park, where bird life, woodland scenery and wildflowers are in abundance. Large sand dunes provide scenic views over the ocean and dolphins can be frequently spotted along this stretch of coast.

Myalup is perfect for those who want a home within an easy commute to Perth, love the bush, beach and peace and quiet. Local amenities are within easy reach but do not overshadow the pristine tranquillity of this town. Day trips into Bunbury, the Ferguson Valley or further south to Busselton and Margaret River make this an appealing location for families who love to explore.

Other notable features of this town and its surrounds are the white sandy beaches that stretch for miles with amazing sunsets and occasional dolphin sightings. Myalup Beach is ideal for swimming, fishing, beach walks and four-wheel driving, whilst Paradise Beach is an excellent fishing spot to catch silver bream, tailor, yellow fin, whiting, herring and flathead.

Keen golfers would be pleased to have the Harvey Golf Club within easy reach. In under 10 minutes you’ll reach the 18-hole par-72 fully reticulated course with bent grass greens. The course includes a driving range for fine tuning your golf skills and a friendly clubroom with a bar facility and change rooms.

Kids are well catered for with three local playgrounds. Two in Binningup and one in Myalup, plus over a dozen in Australind. For education, children will have to travel to the nearby suburbs of Harvey, Australind, Waroona, Brunswick or Bunbury. Primary schools include Harvey Primary, Parkfield Primary, Australind Primary, Picton Primary, Brunswick Junction and St Joseph’s School. Senior school options include Waroona District High School, Harvey Senior High School, Our Lady of Mercy College and Manea Senior College.

For daily shopping needs, the town is serviced by the Myalup Beach General Store, and Binningup General Store which is just 10-minutes away. For a bigger shopping trip, the Australind Village Shopping Centre is a 17-minute drive south and features 26 specialty stores including ALDI, Coles, Chemmart Pharmacy and Australind Newsagency and Post. A good mix of retail and food and beverage can be found here, and there is also a Spudshed close by.
