Capel

Capel is a town in the Southwest region of Western Australia, located 212 kilometres south of Perth. A drive from Perth takes just over 2 hours via the Kwinana Freeway and National Highway. Capel lies midway between Bunbury and Busselton on the Capel River.

Capel is prime farming country, well-known for its cheeses, dairy, fruit and wine, whilst also popular for hobby farms of late. It represents a fast-growing township with a mix of urban development, rural countryside, Jarrah and Tuart forests, and mining by Iluka Resources which specialises in mineral sands exploration and development.

There is plenty of nature to explore in this quaint rural town like feasting on local wines and produce, relaxing on pristine beaches or fishing in Capel River, or hitting the bushwalking trails amongst the timber giants in Tuart Forest National Park. With picnic facilities, native animals and birds a plenty, this is a great day out for the whole family.

Living in Capel, residents will benefit from its proximity to the town centres of Busselton and Bunbury, which are only a 20 to 30-minute drive away. There’s plenty to explore in both towns – head 30 minutes north to Bunbury, and you can watch or swim with the resident dolphins of Koombana Bay or drive 25 minutes south to Busselton and enjoy a two kilometre walk on the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere.

If you love the ocean, then you’ll appreciate Peppermint Grove Beach, only a short 5-minute drive from Capel. It’s the perfect secluded getaway, where white sand meets the crystal-clear waters of Geographe Bay. Peppermint Grove Beach is ideal for boating, sailing and surfing. You can also give beach fishing a go with plenty of fish, prawns and crabs along this stretch of coast.

There’s much to see and experience nearby Capel, from the famous vineyards and cellar doors throughout the Geographe Wine Region to the wonderful nightlife in the Busselton and Bunbury town centres, where you’ll find waterside restaurants and entertainment venues hosting local and international shows, comedians and concerts.
