Hocking is approximately 20 kilometres north of the Perth CBD and located within the City of Wanneroo. Prior to 1994 it was part of the suburb of Wanneroo.

A drive from Hocking into the CBD will take just under 25 minutes, with many local bus routes available to get you there in an hour. A bus from Whitfords Station on the Joondalup line will take 45 minutes.  

Hocking gives residents the best of what Perth has to offer with some of the State’s favourite beaches to the west – just a short 15-minute drive will get you to Mullaloo Beach or Whitfords Beach. Lake Joondalup and Yellagonga Regional Park are just minutes away and the perfect place for an afternoon stroll or family picnic. This large natural reserve is criss-crossed with popular walking trails and studded with tree lined parklands and includes BBQ facilities and playgrounds.

If you’re looking for a place to get involved with the community and engage in some leisure activities or hobbies, then the Pearsall Hocking Community Centre is the place to go. It is located near the Pearsall Primary School and local shopping centre. There are rooms for public hire with lots of different spaces for various purposes – book your next party in the main hall or next business function in one of the meeting rooms. There is also a secure children’s play area and landscaped forecourt integrated as a skateable space.

The main shopping centre in Hocking is the Wyatt Grove Shopping Centre. If you are looking for a bigger retail experience, Joondalup Shopping Centre is just 13 minutes away, or try Westfield Whitfords City just 20 minutes down the road. 

There is a wealth of great shopping and recreation facilities in the surrounding suburbs. There is the Wanneroo Markets and strawberries farms, where strawberry picking is on offer. If you’re up for a round of golf, there is Lakelands Country Club in Gnangara or Marangaroo Golf Course both within a 10-minute drive. Over to the East there is the enchanting world of wine, fine dining and entertainment in the Swan Valley. From outdoor concerts and summer markets to wildlife encounters, feel-good festivals and long table feasts – the Swan Valley has something for everyone. If you’re not adverse to living on the edge, then a trip to Wangara’s axe throwing centre is well worth the fun!

In terms of schools, Hocking has both Hocking Primary School and St Elizabeth’s Catholic Primary School, and many others in neighbouring suburbs. For tertiary study, the Edith Cowan Joondalup Campus is only a 12-minute drive.

The population of Hocking is 6,448 with a density of 2,650 persons per square km. The suburb is heavily populated with maturing couples and families representing 23.5%, followed by established couples and families at 19.3%, then independent youth who represent 17.9%.

Annual growth of the suburb is sitting at 12.6%. Based on settled sales as of 14 February 2022, the median land price in the suburb is $279,000 (reiwa.com.au).
