Yallingup is a town in the South West region of WA, located approximately 256 kilometres south of Perth and just over three hours’ drive. Yallingup lies to the north of the Margaret River wine region and is just a short 12-minute drive from neighbouring Dunsborough.
Yallingup is a popular tourist destination, idyllic and quiet – noted for its top-rated surf, stunning beaches, world-class wines, ancient caves and breathtaking ocean sunsets. It’s no surprise that Australian Traveller magazine rated Yallingup as number one in the 100 Best Towns in Australia for 2019, ahead of long-time frontrunners Noosa (Qld) and Byron Bay (NSW).
For surfing enthusiasts, a good surf break isn’t hard to find. Many people flock to Yallingup for the renowned and well ridden Three Bears, Yallingup, Smith’s Beach and Injidup breaks. For the less adventurous, you’ll also find shallow or sheltered spots ideal for swimming and fishing.
If dry land is more your calling, you can head to the Cape to Cape Track – one of the most diverse walking treks on Earth. The 135-kilometre trail leads you from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin, passing long sandy beaches, dramatic granite headlands, tall karri tree forests, caves, blankets of spring wildflowers and nightly ocean sunsets.
Yallingup is also home to one of WA’s first tourist attractions in Ngilgi Cave. The cave is estimated to be about 1 million years old, and the crystal formations around 500,000 years old. The cave has extensive boardwalks to lead you through the impressive chambers of this underground wonderland, with a junior explorer’s tunnel providing fun for the little ones.
Whilst pristine beaches, rockpools, national parks and ancient caves are no surprise, many are surprised to discover a thriving arts precinct. Caves Road is host to more galleries than anywhere else in the Margaret River Region. At Yallingup Galleries you can browse artworks by renowned local artists. You’ll find fine art, ceramics, glass and furniture hand-crafted from local timber.
Yallingup is home to superb produce, food and wine with plenty of restaurants, cafes, premium wineries and pubs. With a strong ethos of people, produce, and place, you’ll find a relaxed and friendly community of people serving extraordinary culinary delights.
The population of Yallingup is estimated to be 1,195. Of the families in Yallingup, 56.5% were couple families without children, 36.7% were couple families with children and 4% were one parent families.
