Phil and Michelle raised five children together. With four already out building their own lives, the couple reached a welcome crossroads: time to build a home that suited this next chapter. They found the perfect block in Jandakot and turned to Plunkett Homes to bring their vision to life.
Their brief was ambitious. As a family that enjoys travelling, they required caravan access on the block, which was non-negotiable, and they were equally set on a pool and a generous alfresco area for entertaining. An indoor fireplace and an ensuite with genuine wow factor rounded out the wishlist. Getting it all to work on one block required careful planning and the right builder.
A home for everything they love
With so many goals on the list, Phil and Michelle leaned on Plunkett Homes’ experience to make sense of it all.
“When we looked at the goals, we probably had maybe too many,” Phil admits. “It’s really a tribute to Plunkett, who helped us put it all together into something that works really well.”
A few months in, the couple say everything about the home just clicks. For Michelle, the kitchen is the clear standout. A clean island bench with no sink and no hotplate keeps the space uncluttered and ready to use, with a scullery and pantry sitting neatly behind.
“My favourite design of the house is the kitchen,” Michelle says. “It’s just got everything that I’ve wanted in a kitchen.”
For Phil, it’s the alfresco that delivers. A generous outdoor kitchen flows into a space large enough for both sitting and dining, before opening out to the pool with lawn running on either side.
The experience of building was just as important as the outcome. Plunkett Homes’ willingness to listen and adapt made the process feel manageable from the start.
“From start to finish, they were nothing but courteous and kind,” Phil says. “Plunkett was very good at listening to what we really wanted to do, and then being flexible enough to bring in different elements.”
That track record also played a role in the decision. “Plunkett has been around for over 120 years, and I think you just get that security knowing that they’re a good, solid builder.”
