According to the esteemed judges of the 2017 HIA Perth Housing Awards, our retro-styled Riviera is the best display priced between $340,000 and $370,000. Now that’s something to shout about!
If you haven’t visited it yet, the Riviera is on display in Wandi. It’s easy to spot because it’s the one with the bright orange door, concrete block-work and desert-inspired landscaping.
Step inside and you’ll discover a contemporary award-winning home that pays tribute to the fun and glamour of an iconic Palm Springs bungalow.
The HIA judges loved it and we think you will, too. Here’s why:
It’s a bit of a show-off.
With its playful colours and striking features, this home is an escape from the ordinary. It’s also a supremely liveable four-bedroom, two-bathroom family home complete with a study and home theatre. All designed to fit on a 16m-wide block.
“The Riviera is memorable for all the right reasons,” says Dave Clynk, our design maestro. “Not only is it a bit showy and lots of fun, but it’s also a great family home and a great entertainer.”
A nod to the days of drinks trolleys and canapés by the pool in1950s Palm Springs, the Riviera has certainly been giving visitors plenty to talk about, from the cocktail bar in the master suite and the orange vanity top in the family bathroom, to the flamboyant wallpapers, the timber-look panelling and the pink flamingo in the alfresco.
It’s in the zone.
“There’s a lot to take away from this home in terms of ideas and inspirational features, along with the well-zoned, free-flowing floorplan that really works for a family,” Dave says.
Setting large picture windows between blade walls made of concrete blocks has given the dining room an impressive connection with the outdoors, while the over-sized entry lobby features open shelving to provide a clever sense of separation from the door into the master suite. In similar fashion, a retro-style screen of vertical louvres sections off the study from the lobby while retaining the lightness and sense of space that’s enjoyed throughout this cheerful award-winner.
It knows what you want in the bedroom.
One of the areas making the most impact on visitors has been the master suite with its large ensuite and impressive adjoining dressing room complete with an extended vanity top that creates a glamorous dressing table. Each of the three minor bedrooms is also a good size, with a double built-in wardrobe, room for a double or queen-sized bed and space for a study desk.
It draws you in – and out.
The retro-inspired kitchen and the freeform main living area, which leads straight out to the alfresco via a wall of sliding doors, have also been a big hit with homebuyers and HIA judges alike.
“The whole kitchen and living space feels as if it is part of the outdoors. It delivers that sense of interaction that families are looking for in the central part of their home,” Dave says.
The kitchen, which features overhead cupboards, a 900mm oven, cooktop and rangehood, a walk-in pantry and a large island bench, flows into a handy scullery, which in turn leads into the laundry. The scullery means you can have key appliances out ready to use and kitchen essentials close at hand, without cluttering up the kitchen. It’s just another example of how the Riviera provides the features that many of today’s homebuyers look for.
It stands out on the street.
Along with that bright orange front door and striking concrete block-work, the Riviera boasts silicon-jointed windows and a wall of wavy 3D tiles, all set off by the minimalist desert-style landscaping in tune with its Palm Springs inspiration.
The floorplan delivers 318sqm of home. Prices start at $247,580.
