Golden Bay

Golden Bay is located within the City of Rockingham and is approximately 64 kilometres south of the Perth CBD. The suburb is located between Secret Harbour and Singleton and was originally known as Peelhurst, but officially changed its name to Golden Bay in 1985.

Golden Bay is a 45-minute drive down the Kwinana Freeway to reach the Perth CBD, a 20-minute drive to the city of Rockingham and a 15-minute drive to Mandurah City Centre. For public transport, residents can use the Mandurah railway line, boarding at Rockingham which will take them all the way into the CBD. Works are underway on the construction of the Karnup platform which will make catching the train much more convenient for locals.

The Golden Bay community areas are jointly owned and operated by both the Department of Communities WA and Peet Limited and is home to almost 2,200 local dwellings. There are 3 local precincts in the Golden Bay suburb: the Seaside Precinct, Walk Precinct and Reserve Precinct.

Golden Bay is an ideal destination for those who love the sun, sand, surf and a bit of privacy – not many people other than locals visit the beach so you never have to worry about huge crowds. The foreshore has BBQs, playgrounds, a dog exercise area and a skate park to keep the family entertained. There are some lovely cafes along the coast, giving you plenty of options for weekend brunches. Other community events such as the Annual Have a Go Day and Golden Bay Coast Care Tree Planting Day are great for the whole family. If you are a lover of markets, take a stroll at the Mandjar Markets, located just a quick 18 minutes away.

For all your shopping needs, Secret Harbour Shopping Square is less than a 5-minute drive away. It has a range of speciality stores, vast dining options and a mini-golf course. This vicinity is also host to Secret Harbour Dockers Sporting Association and Golf Course and Rhonda Scarrott Reserve & Sports Pavillion. Another shopping destination is Lakelands Shopping Centre only a 10-minute drive. The 20,000sqm centre is anchored by Coles, Kmart and ALDI and boasts more than 40 specialty stores. Lakelands is also a community space providing a wide range of services with a childcare centre, library, medical centre, travel agency, restaurants, beauty salons and a 24/7 gym.

If you’re looking at Schools in the area, Golden Bay Primary School is an independent public school for Kindergarten to Year 6, located within the estate. Other schools in neighbouring areas include Comet Bay College in Secret Harbour and Singleton Primary School, both a 5-minute drive. For tertiary education there are two university campuses located in Rockingham – Murdoch University and the Challenger Institute of Technology.

The population of Golden Bay is just over 5,501 with a density of 1,236 persons per square km. Couples with children make up 46% of the suburb population, followed by couples without children at 32.9%. Single parent families make up 15.6%.

Annual growth of the suburb is sitting at 19.1%. Based on settled sales as of 30 May 2022, the median land price in the suburb is $179,000 (reiwa.com.au).
