Busselton

Busselton is a suburb located approximately 220 kilometres south-west of Perth and was one of the earliest settlements in WA. It is the central suburb in the City of Busselton which has gradually shifted its economic focus from agriculture to tourism over the years. It is now one of the most popular holiday destinations for Western Australians.

A drive to Busselton from Perth takes roughly two and half hours. Or you could fly, with the Busselton-Margaret River Airport only 6.5 kilometres from the town centre, equipped with everything from A330s to private aircraft. Busselton is only 23 minutes’ drive to Dunsborough and 42 minutes’ drive to Margaret River where world-class wineries and restaurants await.

Busselton has a very laid-back lifestyle and is a popular place for families and retirees in search of greater work-life balance and a more affordable lifestyle. Not only is Busselton blessed with a beautiful waterfront of white sandy beaches, it also has a lively foreshore with beachside cycle paths, a buzzing cultural hub and an award-winning food and wine scene.

Busselton is most famous for its 150-year-old, 1.8-kilometre-long heritage-listed jetty – the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. At the end of the jetty is a world class ‘Underwater Observatory’ which descends eight metres to the ocean floor with enormous windows, placing you alongside colourful coral, patterned fish, sponges and invertebrates.

The Busselton foreshore is another favourite destination for many families where the kids

can get sprinkled with water falling from a whale’s tail, scale ropes up a life-sized shipwreck and clamber over a giant octopus. There is plenty to see and do in Busselton, from exploring the Ngilgi Cave, and visiting museums and galleries, to whale-watching on The Cape to Cape Track and feasting on locally produced food and craft beers.

Busselton is host to more than 150 events throughout the year. These include sporting, art and gourmet events such as the Ironman Triathlon, CinefestOz, The Festival of Busselton, the Busselton Jetty Swim, South West Craft Beer Festival and Forest Rally, just to name a few! Plus, there are regular events like markets, community concerts, and of course the annual Busselton show.

The newly opened Origins Market is a great place to shop for artisanal food, produce and craft. Other notable amenities and services include the new performing arts centre, the $120.4 million Busselton Health Campus which opened in 2015, the Busselton Golf Club, and the Geographe Leisure Centre.

Education-wise, Busselton has five secondary schools and six primary schools, as well as TAFE facilities. Schools include Geographe Primary School, West Busselton Primary School, Busselton Senior High School, St Mary MacKillop College and Georgiana Molloy Anglican School.
