We won’t blame you if you fall head over heels in love with the Lake House, our Plantation-style show-stopper in Dunsborough.
The judges of the Master Builders South West awards were certainly bowled over by this stunning ‘southern belle’. They’ve named it:
Display Home of the Year for 2018
Best Display Home Over $500,000
We couldn’t be happier!
So, why do we think the Lake House is such a standout?
Well, aside from the excellence in construction that a Master Builders’ award stands for, this big, beautiful ‘southern belle’ offers the enticing blend of casual charm and classic elegance that we know you adore.
Just look at how popular the Hamptons look – the Plantation style’s close cousin – has been in recent years and you’ll see what we mean.
“When we were asked to design for this generous block in Dunsborough, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take one of our biggest style trends off in a slightly different direction,” explains Dave Clynk, who heads up our design team.
Delivering a family-friendly floor plan with almost 500sqm of accommodation, including four big bedrooms, a study, library, upstairs sitting room, scullery, triple garage and not one, but three huge outdoor living areas, the Lake House has it all.
“Going all out on the wow-factor was the only option,” Dave says. “Reminiscent of the beautiful Plantation homes of old, it had to capture that grandeur, yet still fit with the relaxed lifestyle we enjoy today.
“Yes, it’s a big house, but much of the style and ambience comes from the way rooms interact, the abundance of natural light, and the choice of fittings, fixtures, colours and cabinetry.”
Let’s talk detail … Coffered ceilings, weatherboards, French doors, glazing bars to the windows, Shaker-style cabinets, eave brackets, simple white balustrading, deep skirting boards and feature cornice. What’s not to love? Then there’s all that soft white paired with neutral tones and touches of timber, wicker and soft green.
Let there be light … Throughout the home, the sheer volume of space is emphasised, while natural light floods in at every turn.
Capturing a view … You can imagine looking out across the gardens, a park or indeed, a lake, taking in the view from the terrace and huge entertaining balcony.
Out is in … Or is in, out? It’s hard to tell in the Lake House, where banks of sliding doors and classic French doors blur the lines and create a five-star indoor/outdoor connection. And let’s not forget the choice of outdoor living areas, including the barbecue area with its built-in breakfast bar, or that huge open-plan indoor/outdoor living area stretching across the back of the house.
Made for everyday living … Coffered ceilings help define the living area and the dining area, while the kitchen flows neatly into a well-fitted scullery in one direction and out to the alfresco in the other direction.
Entertaining on a grand scale … Dave had big parties and family gatherings in mind when he designed the ground floor entertaining area, as well as those times when you just want to relax quietly on a Sunday morning. With the large balcony and terrace upstairs, you’re actually spoilt for choice when it comes to entertaining outdoors.
The suite life … The master suite in the Lake House is suitably impressive, with French doors to the gardens, built in wardrobes, and a freestanding bath, double vanities and generous shower in the open-style ensuite.
Oh-so-flexible … The Lake House suits an 18.5m-wide block with the triple garage, or a 15m-wide block with a double garage. As with all our designs, it can be customised to suit, or you can use it as your starting point by taking advantage of our free design service.
